Prusa i3 firmware

I'm a biologist new to 3D printing and just finished building a Prusa i3 to turn it into a bioprinter based on a published design. The authors shared a modified firmware that works with their setup, but since then , Prusa's firmware and Slic3r have been updated a lot. Should i just use their original firmware or try updating it with their changes? Any tips for the build are also welcome!!

If their firmware works, roll with it for now, at least it is less headache. But yeah, down the line, updating with their tweaks on top of newer firmware's worth it. For the build: level everything perfectly and watch those stepper temps

Sticking to their old firmware is lazy, if you don't update it, you're basically sabotaging your own bioprinter. Modern firmware and slicers fix critical bugs and add features; using outdated code risks print failures and wasted bio-material
